O Christ    Jesus,
when all is darkness
and we feel our weakness and helplessness,
give us the sense of Your presence,
Your love, and Your strength.
Help us to have perfect trust
in Your protecting love
and strengthening power,
so that nothing may frighten or worry us,
for, living close to You,
we    shall see Your hand,
Your purpose, Your will through all things.

Our Mother Church

Matthew 9:12-13 But when he heard this, he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have come to call not the righteous but sinners.”

Last week I couldn’t speak about mothers because of the shortened service.

Therefore, I would like to speak about mothers this week.

Couple of weeks ago I spoke about the vision of a church purposed to demonstrate God’s love to the world because we come to it not because of tradition or habit but because we love God.

We are desperately drawn to His love and we want to demonstrate that love to others.

The church that embodies that love in discipleship and in the way we live out faith in the world.

In some way church should reflect the caring love of mothers.

That’s a tall order, far from the realities of who we are today.

When I think of this vision, I blush because my family and other staff members know me; I am far from being the embodiment of God’s love…

But we are called to love and to be loved.

I thought “why the urgent emphasis on love in our church?”

Here it is: we are all broken, wounded in our hearts and spirit.

We are hurt and hurtful to one another and at the same time being oblivious of our actions.

That’s the people in our church, so imagine the pain incurred and inflicted by those in the world?

Wouldn’t it be great if we begin to build a place of love and mercy, the mother church?

A place for motherly love to embrace people and nurture them through their faith journey.

Please join us this week for the importance of spiritual motherhood!

God is truly doing a new thing on this earth!!!! We are witnessing a radical marriage of global missions and prayer, of the Great Commandment (to love the LORD with all of our heart, mind, and strength) birthing violently into the Great Commission! From the place of intimacy, first love, and adoration, there is a Davidic generation surrendered to the Cross, rising by the power of the Spirit to live in holiness and radical love… consumed by godly hunger for the salvation of souls, for REVIVAL!

Awaken the Dawn conference is a FREE!! 4-day conference!! Their vision is encountering Jesus and mobilizing the end time prayer and missions movement. World-wide recognized Christian leaders, including Reinhard Bonnke, TheCall’s Lou Engle, IHOP’s Corey Russell and Stuart Greaves, among many, many more, will be gathering with HUNDREDS of people – fathers, mothers, daughters, sons, cross-generational and cross-cultural – to hear what the Lord is doing in this hour and season!

And it is taking place right here in VA, at the Fredericksburg Expo Center… May 23-26! It is absolutely free!!

As we look at the Christian landscape, only a portion of believers in Jesus appear to enjoy an intimate, vibrant relationship with God. Are they God’s favorites? It is possible that there are some people who have “qualified” for a deeper intimacy with Him?

In Exodus 24, we read about people who were at four different levels of intimacy with God. The first level contained the Israelites who Moses led out of the camp to meet with God at the foot of the mountain (Exodus 19:17). This group worshiped God from a distance.

The second level was attained by “Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and seventy of Israel’s elders” (24:1).

They ascended the mountain and actually “saw the God of Israel” (vv. 9-10). In fact, they ate and drank in His presence! (v.11)

The third level was realized by Joshua and Moses who “set out” to receive God’s commands inscribed in stone (v.13). Why did Joshua receive this honor to accompany Moses? In Exodus 33:11, we catch a glimpse into his heart. Joshua desired intimacy with God. He preferred to be in God’s presence, to be identified with Him.

The fourth level was reached solely by Moses with whom the Lord spoke “face to face, as one speaks to a friend” (Exodus 33:11).

Oswald Sanders, in his sermon on Exodus 24, concluded: “Every one of us is as close to God as we have chosen. It is not as close as we would like to be, or what we sometimes want to be.” God will not drag us up to teh “mountain.” But He sees the desire of our heart as displayed in our choices, and as you “come close to God,…God will come close to you” (James 4:8).

Don’t confuse familiarity with intimacy. Familiarity is knowing about God; intimacy is knowing God.

If you were living in Moses’ day, where would you be on that mountain? Why?

Missionary Andrew Park gave us an encouraging sermon on evangelism, our need to reach out to those outside of our walls. He has been working Tanzania for 17 years to build a center for outreach based on Christian education. His vision for this compelling: through education build Christian and civil leaders. He is in the States to raise $100,000 for the Living Stone Seminary. If you felt the tug of the Holy Spirit to give, please give to this wonderful cause. Write Tanzania on your offering so that it could be properly designated.

In March 2012, KUMCGW passed a resolution stating that they will help VOPC become independent to make plans for growth and facility accommodations.

On Sunday April 15, the VOPC leaders presented proposed changes for the future, which included discussions about our church structure, willingness to fully depend on God, strengthening our children’s education department, the possibility of moving to an afternoon service time in the main sanctuary or even to a new service location.

This meeting was a call to prayer and discernment for the congregation.

Let’s pray for the Pastor, the leaders and the entire congregation as we all discern God’s will for our church.

The presentation for the town hall meeting, contact list, and feedback form are posted below. You may use feedback@vopc.org to submit your questions/comments to everyone on the contact list.

Dear Jesus, help me to spread Thy fragrance everywhere I go. Flood my soul with Thy spirit and love. Penetrate and possess my whole Return to “Paying Tribute to Mother Teresa of Calcutta”being so utterly that all my life may only be a radiance of Thine. Shine through me and be so in me that every soul I come in contact with may feel Thy presence in my soul. Let them look up and see no longer me but only Jesus. Stay with me and then I shall begin to shine as you shine, so to shine as to be a light to others.

Grant that putting You first in all my lovings I may be liberated from all lesser loves and loyalties, and have You as my first love, my chiefest good and my final joy.

O Lord Jesus! How continually You must reprimand us for our unbelief. Our terrible inability to trust our Father and His promises must appear quite strange to You. Lord! Let Your words, “Because of your unbelief,” sink into the very depths of our hearts and reveal how much of the sin and suffering around us is our fault. Then teach us, Blessed Lord,that faith can be gained and learned in the prayer and fasting that brings us into living fellowship with Yourself and the Father.

“O Lord, my Lord, how excellent is your name in all the earth.” The Pleiades and Orion sing your praise. Sparrows and chickadees mimic their song. All creation seems in harmony with you, the Master Conductor. All, that is, except me. Why? Why do I alone want to sing my own melody? I certainly am a stubborn creature. Forgive me.

I do desire to come into harmony with you more fully and more often. I do desire a fellowship that is constant and sustaining. Please nurture this desire of mine, which seems so small and tentative right now. May I someday become like the trees, which are “planted by streams of water, which yeild their fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither. In all that they do, they prosper.” For Jesus’ sake. -Amen

A PERSONAL PRAYER

O God, the Light of the heart that sees You,
The Life of the soul that loves You,
The Strength of the mind that seeks You:
May I ever continue to be steadfast in Your love.
Be the joy of my heart;
Take all of me to Yourself, and abide therein.
The house of my soul is, I confess, too narrow for You.
Enlarge it that You may enter.
It is ruinous, but do repair it.
It has within it what must offend Your eyes;
I confess and know it,
But whose help shall I seek in cleansing it but Yours alone?
To You, O God, I cry urgently.
Cleanse me from secret faults.
Keep me from false pride and sensuality
That they not get dominion over me.

A PERSONAL INVOCATION

O Love of God, descend into my heart;
Enlighten the dark corners of this neglected dwelling,
And scatter there Your cheerful beams.
Dwell in the soul that longs to be Your temple;
Water that barren soil overrun with weeds and briars
And lost for lack of cultivating.
Make it fruitful with Your dew.
Come, dear Refreshment of those who languish;
Come, Star and Guide of those who sail amidst tempests.
You are the Haven of the tossed and shipwrecked.
Come now, Glory and Crown of the living,
As well as the Safeguard of the dying.
Come, Sacred Spirit;
Come, and fit me to receive You.

-St. Augustine
